Sanborn earns first PASS North win at Riverside Speedway
Trevor Sanborn passed team mate Travis Benjamin on lap 83, and drove onto earn his first Pro All Stars Series (PASS) north super late model feature win at Groveton’s Riverside Speedway.
The feature win before the large crowd at the quarter mile speed plant gave the Richard Moody Racing team a sweep of the top two spots. The #33 of Richie Dearborn crossed the line third. The popular Ben Rowe and Cassius Clark finished fourth and fifth respectively. The 150 laps went quick, being stopped just one time by caution.
The PASS Modified division had a rough start. However, after some early cautions Center Conway’s Andy Shaw picked up his third win of the season. Shaw was followed to the line by Scott McDaniel and Wayne Whitten Jr. The #77 Jon Brill and the #53w of Alan Wilson went fourth and fifth.
The Amsoil Nelcar Legends made a visit to Groveton and put on a pair of features. The first event was a make-up event from a rainout at Lee USA Speedway. Kevin Hutchens made the most out the features capturing a pair of wins. When the field went green for the 25 lap feature, Hutchens got the jump. Kevin Hutchens crossed the line first for his first win in Legends Car competition. Bobby Timmons raced second, while Tyler Jordan held off Bob Weymouth for third and Kendall Curit finished fifth.
In the second feature, it was Hutchens again for the victory. Jordan finished second, as Weymouth held off Timmons in a hard battle for third, and Curit rounded out the top five. Heat wins went to Hutchens and Curit.
Riverside Speedway’s Budweiser Super Stocks saw rookie driver Nick Gilcris get to the front early and drive to his second feature win of the season. The #21 of Matt Carbone was second and Jerread Ledger in his #44 raced home third. Ledger and Gilcris won the heat races.
The Jiffy Mart Cyclones ran caution free until the front stretch lights went out. Once the lights went back on, the racing was tough up front. Jerrad Ainsworth ran very well early, sporting a new ride. Ainsworth eventually slipped back to finish sixth, having one of his best runs of the year. When the dust settled it was Lorin Vear in victory lane. Finishing second was Cole Kilby and third went to Keith Normand. Travis Moulton had a good run finishing fourth and Jeff Ainsworth was in the fifth spot.
The Monster trucks topped off the evening for the crowd. The dry weather helped kick up some huge dust clouds, causing the fans to lose site of the spinning monsters.
The racing action resumes this Saturday night with the “Clash of the Titans” qualifier up for grabs in the North Country Ford Late Model division. The Northeast Classic Lites will be on the card, including the Outlaw/Sportsman, Street Stocks, Dwarf cars, Angels and Cyclones. The evening is sponsored by The Sign Depot and Kingdom Embroidery.
