RED HOT AT RIVERSIDE SUMMERFEST 2007

Summerfest 2007 presented by Miller Lite and Amoskeag Beverage battled rainy weather throughout the weekend, but with an unbelievable team effort, the giant two day event was run in its’ entiretyin front of a huge crowd each night at the P.A.S.S. sanctioned Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire.

Summerfest 2007 winners included Ryan Delabruere, Doug Laleme, James Lambert, Troy Randall, Allison Brown, Ernie Laplant, Charlie Rockwell, Cody Hodge and Tyler Leighton.

The weekend started off on Friday night with the Jake McDowell Memorial Street Stock 100. Prior to the evenings festivities, a very special tribute to Jake McDowell was held, as every driver took part in the ceremony. Just as it concluded, the skies opened up and drenched the crowd and race teams. After a while the rain subsided, and the drying process began. Just as the show was about to get underway, the rain returned, only to stop once again. It was decided to give it one more shot, and fortunately the rains held off for the remainder of the night. Due to the lateness of the start. It was decided to run features only.  The River Bend RV Street Stocks took center stage for the evening with several invaders from Thunder Road and White Mountain Motorsports Park on hand. Troy Randall went down a lap early in the event, but took advantage of a couple of timely cautions to get back on the lead lap and catch up to the field. With 17 laps remaining, he raced by leader Alex Theroux and never looked back. A pair of rookies, Theroux and Tyler Therrien chased him home. Ryan Heuser and Ruben Call completed the top five.

The Wildman Auto Daredevils rolled out next, and young Tyler Leighton won his career first main event in the rookies division. Dilyn Switser, Cameron Bowen, Brendon Hunt and Randy Whittum rounded out the top five. Cody Hodge continued to dominate the Veteran Daredevils as he rolled to another win. Jesse Switser, Brett Gervais, Kyle Pembroke and Riley Hartshorn followed Hodge to the stripe.

The Gilmour Jeep / Ford / Dodge Late Models put on a whale of a show, as rookie Ryan Delabruere raced by Howard Switser with four laps to go to collect his first ever Late Model victory. Switser settled for second, followed by Reno Gervais, Jeff Marshall, and Mike Kenison.

The Budweiser Super Stocks wrapped up the evenings activities with James Lambert making it two in a row as he edged out Luke Shannon at the stripe. Nathan Swallow, Jeremy Lacoss and Denny Degreenia followed the pair to the line.

The same weather pattern carried over to Saturday’s activities as hazy, hot and humid weather was the norm for the day, and rain showers moved in around an hour before post time. Once again the race teams pitched in and got the track dried out, and racing began a little more than an hour late. The big boys from P.A.S.S. were in town, including a couple of new veteran’s making their first Riverside Start, Kelly Moore and Dave Dion. Steve Berry jumped out front early, but it was Kelly Moore holding off a stiff challenge from Trevor Sanborn to grab the win. Richie Dearborn, Johnny Clark and Ben Rowe placed third through fifth. The P.A.S.S. Mods, Optical Expression 40, was a slugfest from the drop of the green flag. When the dust settled, Jason Taylor held off a valiant effort by Chris Staples in a great run to the finish. Mark Lucas, Steve Bennett Jr., and Richie Morse ran solidly in the top five.

Doug Laleme claimed his first S.T. Griswold Outlaw Sportsman victory as he nipped Johnny Ledger and Ken Marier at the stripe. Marier might have had the fastest car of the bunch, but Laleme and Ledger ran side by side for most of the race, keeping Marier at bay. Reggie Theroux and Matt Leblanc placed fourth and fifth respectively. A huge field of Leo Enos Landscaping Angels rolled to the line for their 35 lap main event. Allison Brown jumped out front early, and never looked back to claim her first ever win. Heather Hodge, Traci Nelson, Miranda Gervais and Vanessa Brown rounded out the top five.

Unstoppable Ernie Laplant continues to dominate the Twisted Tea Dwarf Cars as he edges out Eric Hall, Dana Huoppi, Nathan Brown and Bobby Riley.

The final event of the Miller Lite Summerfest 2007 was the 100 lap Cyclone Enduro. Charlie Rockwell made it two in a row as he defeated Aric Cole, Chris Caron, Scott Marshall and Jeff Ainsworth.

Riverside Speedway will be right back in action this coming Saturday night as Jiffy Mart will sponsor the evenings’ activities. In action will be the Late Models, Street Stocks, Super Stocks, Daredevils, Angels and Cyclones. It will also be the Battle of the Sexes II featuring the top five Lady Angels against the top five Cyclones. Post time is 6pm.
