RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY ADOPTS

 NEW HANDICAP PROCEDURES FOR 2008

Riverside Speedway track management has adopted a new handicapping procedure for the 2008 racing season. “The old handicap system had a few flaws in it, and after sitting down with my Pit Steward and Handicapper, Doug Farnsworth, I think we have closed the gap in making it fair for our regular competitors, and making it fair for part time competitors as well, stated General Manager, Dick Therrien. In our old system, competitors that started after opening day were assessed a penalty which basically affected them for the entire season. With the new format, teams should be able to overcome a missed event after a certain amount of races, and then be handicapped into their normal position.”

The new handicapping format is as follows:

OPENING DAY & 1ST DIVISION RACE HANDICAPPING PROCEDURES:

All cars will draw for starting positions. Top three finishers in each qualifying heat will re-draw for feature starting positions. Everyone finishing fourth or back (excluding declared Rookies) will start the feature after these qualified cars, and be lined up by their finishing positions in the qualifying heats. EXAMPLE: All 4th place finishers (excluding declared Rookies) will start 10th, 11th and 12th in the feature if there were three heats.

All declared Rookies will draw as well, but will start after Non-Rookies in heats and features. They will be lined up according to their drawn number in qualifiers, and by finishing position of other Rookies for the feature. Rookies MUST start at the rear a minimum of three consecutive weeks, and may be started at the rear longer if deemed needed by the Director of Competition and/or Track Management.

RACE WEEK #2 HANDICAPPING PROCEDURES:

All cars present that raced the first week will receive their handicapped positions. Total number of points divided by number of races equals’ handicap. The higher the handicap, the farther back you will start.

***Those not present opening day or division’s first event will start at the rear, three consecutive weeks.

SEASON’S HANDICAPPING PROCEDURE:

Those present opening day, or first divisional race, but miss another race will start at the rear of the field for both heats and feature for one complete race meet. Miss two consecutive weeks and you must start at the rear of the field for both heats and feature for two complete race meets. Miss three consecutive weeks and you must start at the rear of the field for both heats and feature for three complete race meets. The pattern continues for each extra race missed.

2008 QUALIFYING PROCEDURES

All cars must attempt to qualify in a qualifying heat or consolation race(s).

If car is broken for qualifying rounds, they may fall in at the back of the feature event if there is not a full field of cars. Maximum amount of cars starting in any feature event is twenty-four (24).

FULL FIELD QUALIFYING PROCEDURES:

If there are twenty-four (24) cars or more in the pit area in a respective division, the following procedure will happen. Three (3) qualifying heats, Top six (6) transfers to the feature, the rest go to the consolation, with six (6) cars transferring to feature from the consolation race. The cars that qualified in the heats will receive their handicapped position for the feature. The consolation cars will line up in the order that they finished. All Rookie drivers qualifying in their respective heats will start behind qualified Non-Rookies, but before consolation cars, and be lined up by their heat finish. Rookies qualifying through the consolation round will start at the back of the feature field lined up by their finish.

LATE MODEL TRIPLE CROWN SERIES QUALIFYING PROCEDURES:

If there are twenty-four (24) Late Models or more in the pit area, the following procedure will happen. Three (3) qualifying heats, Top six (6) transfers to the feature, the rest go to the consolation, with four (4) cars transferring to feature from the consolation race. The final two qualifying spots will be provisional's to any Late Model driver in the top fifteen in track points that has competed in all Late Model races thus far in 2008. If no unqualified drivers meet this criteria, the final two spots will revert back to the next one or two cars that didn’t make the field from the consolation round. (To qualify for a provisional, you

must have taken the green flag for the consolation event). The cars that qualified in the heats will receive their handicapped position for the feature. The consolation cars will line up in the order that they finished. Anyone receiving a provisional will start last in the feature event. All Rookie drivers qualifying in their respective heats will start behind qualified Non-Rookies, but before consolation cars, and be lined up by their respective handicaps unless it is their first race. Rookies qualifying through the consolation round will start at the back of the feature field lined up by their finish, but ahead of provisional starters.
