Randy Potter rolls to Late Model 100 lap Victory at Riverside Speedway
Groveton’s own Randy Potter made his 2010 debut a successful one, working his way from the back of the pack and holding off Mike Kenison and young gun Dilyn Switser to capture the 100 lap main event on Mason Enterprises and R&R Fireworks night at Riverside Speedway Saturday. Other winners in front of the huge packed house included Jeff Marshall, Nick Gilcris, Dean Switser, Howard Switser, Lyndsey Christman, Cole Kilby, Alex Rooney, Brent Ming, and Kristian Switser. Potter, an ACT regular, showed patience working his way through several early cautions and then battling with ACT rookie Kenison and Riverside’s top drivers in Russ Clark, Bryan Mason, and Paul Schartner III. Late in the race, Clark fell victim to losing a sway bar, Mason a tire going down, and Schartner to a sour Motor and contact with the front stretch concrete. That enabled the home town hero to cruise into victory lane to take home the $1000 prize with Kenison in the runner-up spot, the rookie Switser third, Mason recovering for fourth, and Steve Patnaude a solid fifth. In the heats, Cody Hodge, Jesse Switser, and Matt Pepin carried the checkers. In the Mason Enterprises Outlaw/Sportsman class, Jeff Marshall took to the outside and raced into victory lane. The Davis boys, Jourdon and Chandler took home the second and third spots. The heat win went to Marshall. The feel good story of the night came in the Budweiser Super Stock feature. Rookie driver Nick Gilcris went to the outside to take the lead late in the race and pulled away for his first feature win in that division. Bill Stebbins Jr. had his best race of the season taking the runner-up spot, with point leader Matt Carbone third. Heat wins went to Bobby Taylor and Jerrad Ledger. Thirteen Twisted Tea Dwarf cars took to the high banks for their feature event. West Burke’s Howard Switser held off the hard charging Eric Hall for the win and the very steady Matt Seavey took home the third spot. Heat wins went to Trevor Roy and Eric Corum. The Isaacson Structural Steel Angels went 35 laps in their main event. Top guns Lyndsey Christman and Allison Barney finished one two. Berlin’s Cynthia Litvin continues to have a successful season finishing third, with Lisa Hodgdon fourth and Shauna Randall fifth. The Caron Building Center Daredevils raced caution free. In the rookie division, Kristian Switser took the early lead and raced to victory lane. Switser was followed by Anthony Lacoss, Sierra Sanschagrin, Jenna Randall, and Cody Smith. In the veteran feature, Brent Ming continues to be a dominant force, getting by Randy Whittum for the win. Whittum went second and Jerrad Plumley third. Tyler Austin and Aaron Poulin rounded out the top five. The Town & Country Motor Inn street stocks had a “rockem-sockem” event. Brendan Hunt was the unfortunate victim of a hard crash that finished with him striking the front stretch wall. That brought out the red flag. Hunt was shaken and unfortunately his car was heavily damaged ending his night. After the dust had settled, St Johnsbury’s Dean Switser duplicated his son’s win earlier in the Daredevils, capturing his feature race. Groveton’s Chris Muenier was second and Lancaster’s Michael McGee third. Heat wins went to Muenier and Chris Caron. The Jiffy Mart Cyclones went caution free during their feature. That enabled Cole Kilby to work his way from the eighth starting spot and capture the checkered flag. Lorin Vear ran second and Jeff Ainsworth went third. Shaun Stetson and Chris Ouellette finished fourth and fifth. The large crowd was treated to a sensational fireworks display organized by the Groveton Fire Department and sponsored by Mason Enterprises and R&R Fireworks. This coming Saturday night is sponsored by Vaillancourt Electric. On the card will be the Late Models, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Angels, and Daredevils. Pit gates open at 1 pm, qualifying at 6 pm. Riverside Speedway is a PASS sanctioned track and is located off of Brown Road in Groveton, NH.
