Matt Seavey wins Twisted Twisted Tea Dwarf Car Triple 15s at Riverside Speedway

Auburn’s Matt Seavey used finishes of fourth, first, and second place and went onto claim the $500 top prize in the Twisted Tea Triple 15s at Riverside Speedway Friday.

The Dwarf cars were 15 strong in the pits to begin the evening, all seeking the top prize from Amoskeg Beverages and Twisted Tea.

The Dwarfs began the night with the first of three 15 lap features. It didn’t take long for the field to come together on lap number one on the front stretch. Two of the top three point men, Eric Hall and Bobby Riley, ended their first feature making hard contact with the front stretch concrete. Once the field got back under way, West Burke’s Howard Switser made his way to the front for the win. Campton’s Dave Gyger went second and Eric Corum third.

The field was inverted for the second feature. This time it was the #19 of Matt Seavey that took home the victory. Seavey was followed to the stripe by Switser and Dennis O’Brien to round out the top three.

For the final segment, the field was again inverted. Newcomer Bear Lapan and top five point man, Toby Merchant, brought the field to green. The action was furious in the middle of the pack as Switser, Seavey, and Gyger tried to make their way to the front. The open wheeled mini rocket-ships set off numerous spark shows through the corners and occasional contact with each other.

Switser made it to the front by lap 12 and led the final three circuits for what appeared to be the big pay day. Unfortunately, post race inspection found Switser out of compliance with a rule, handing the win to Seavey. Second place went to Gyger, third place to Eric Corum, fourth to O’Brien, and fifth to rookie Josh Lafluer.

The Caron Building Center Youth Daredevils ran all of their events caution free. Winning the rookie feature was the #18 of Cody Smith. Smith was chased to the line by Stark’s Jenna Randall and Berlin’s Sierra Sanschagrin.

It the veteran division, Tyler Austin got to the front early and cruised to the feature win. A sensational battle for the second spot between Aaron Poulin and Randy Whittum for eight laps, kept the fans on the edge of their seats. Whittum showed tremendous determination on the outside and just couldn’t get by Poulin. Poulin took the runner-up spot, while Whittum went third.

The Isaacson Structural Steel Angels continue to put on a great show. This time it was the young guns that held the upper hand over their seasoned competitors. Sophomore driver Lyndsey Christman carried the checkered flag. Rising rookie hot shoe Desirae Sicard was second and Street Stock driver Shauna Randall was third. Qualifying wins went to Lisa Hodgdon and Christman.

The Mason Excavating Outlaw/Sportsman field has been eight strong all season. The Outlaws again put on a caution free affair and top point man Dan Sidney took home the win. Sidney had to run down Whitefield’s Jourdan Davis. Davis had the feature won until late motor trouble set in and he had to settle for the runner-up spot. Jeff Marshall powered his #32 to the third spot. Davis and Marshall won their qualifiers.

The Jiffy Mart Cyclones/Enduros had a 100 lap feature with a field of 20 cars. The race was stopped just twice to move cars. The top six racers put on a spectacular display of weaving in and out of traffic. When the dust had settled, Lorin Vear held off the stiff competition for the victory. The #21 of Keith Norman was second and Whitefield’s Nick Pilotte raced home third.

One of the biggest weekends of the year will take place this Saturday night at Riverside Speedway. Mason Enterprises presents the 4th of July fireworks Extravaganza. All of the speedway’s divisions are in competition. The North Country Ford Late Models will race a 100 lap, $1000 to win feature. This may be a preview of the up-coming “Clash of the Titans” in mid-August. Inquiries have been made from Groveton’s Mike Kenison and Randy Potter, along with 2009 “Clash” winner, Wayne Helliwell Jr.

Racing action will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the fireworks set to go off at 9:15 p.m.
