Dan Sidney captures Outlaw feature and points Championship at Riverside Speedway
St. Johnsbury Vermont's Dan Sidney took control of the lead late in the race, and went on to win the Mason Enterprise Outlaw/Sportsman division feature at Riverside Speedway in Groveton Friday. The win also gave Sidney the probability of the 2010 championship, provided he takes a green flag at Riverside's October 16th combined race with the PASS Sportsman division.
It was absolute Power Night at Riverside Speedway. Sidney came into the night tied with fellow racer Jeff Marshall. The night quickly went bad for Marshall. Marshall developed motor problems during the heat race. Sidney finished third in the qualifier and Marshall in fourth, to give Sidney a one point edge heading into the feature event.
The duo started side by side in the third row for the 25-lapper. It wasn't long until the #32 of Marshall began to misfire again and it got worse as the race went along robbing precious horsepower from the #32. Mean while Sidney was in a groove on the outside and began to pick off the front runners one at a time. Sidney got by runner-up finisher Ron Watson with under 10 laps to go and cruised to victory lane. Sidney took his time in carrying the checkers, putting on an impressive burn-out show for everyone in attendance. Watson had his second straight podium finish and Jourdan Davis finished his spectacular season in third.
The Town & Country Street Stocks had a make-up feature race to open the evening. Chris Caron and Matt LeBlanc had a great battle up front, running side by side for several laps. Caron finally got by LeBlanc and took down his third victory of the season. LeBlanc had his best finish of the year in the runner-up spot, while the hard charging Ben Belanger went third.
The Caron Building Center and the Sign Depot youth Daredevil divisions were sixteen strong. After a couple of early cautions, the kids put on a spectacular race. Sierra Sanschagrin won the rookie portion of the feature and Randy Whittum the veterans division. Behind Sanschagrin was the #12 of Jarred Plumley and the #18 of Cody Smith. Taking home the runner-up spot in the veterans was new-comer Joey Laquerre in his #51 and third went to the #04 of Aaron Poulin.
In the Budweiser Super Stock feature, point leader Matt Carbone took home the win. Groveton's Nick Gilcris raced home second over coming a tire issue during the feature and Randolph's David Corrigan was third. Corrigan carried the checkers in the heat win.
The Street stocks were back onto the track for their second feature of the night and what a race it was. Ben Belanger and Luc Shannon broke through bottle neck in the pack and then commenced to battle each other over the final 10 laps. Belanger was able to hold off the hard charging Shannon. Back in the pack, Robert Isham prevailed to finish in the third spot. Matt LeBlanc and Chris Caron rounded out the top five. Heat checkers flew for LeBlanc and Belanger. The wins pushed Belanger into the points lead by just a mere eight points a head of the #4 of Doug Duprey.
The Jiffy Mart Cyclones came out for their 100 lap main event. The racing was spectacular. Nick Pilotte was fresh off his feature win at WMMP earlier in the evening and began a 95 lap battle with the #88 of Jason Wyman. The two swapped the lead several times, working in and amongst lapped traffic. Sparks began to reveal themselves from the right front tire of Wyman at lap 82. The tire finally came undone for Wyman coming out of turn four with Pilotte on his outside door. Wyman somehow kept his car under control and kept from putting Pilotte into the front stretch concrete.
Pilotte motored the final laps into victory lane. Lorin Vear, Cole Kilby, Keith Normand, and Chris Ouellette were your top five. Heat wins went to Dana Graham, Wyman, and Scott Corey. Corey won the V6&8 portion of the 100-lapper.
