HONORS AT RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY

 

            The PA.S.S. sanctioned, Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire is proud to announce the 2008 Rookie of the Year award winners. Each of these drivers will be honored at the 2008, Banquet of Champions, which will be held on Saturday, November 15th at the Town and Country Motor Inn, Route 2 east, in Gorham, New Hampshire.

 

            Paul Schartner III from Lyndonville, Vermont, will be standing at the podium as the top rookie in the North Country Ford Late Model division. Schartner closed out a solid rookie season by leading the final event of the season for over 30 laps before veteran hotshoe, Russell Clark slipped by coming to the white flag. He held on for a career best second place finish. By virtue of this finish, he secured 5th place in the final standings. Jeremy Lacoss placed second in the rookie standings.

 

            West Glover, Vermont’s, Jason Rogers earned the honors for top rookie in the ultra-competitive Budweiser Super Stock class. Rogers ended up fourth in the final point standings and had numerous top finishes throughout the season. His consistent finishes allowed him to beat out Allyn Briggs for the title.

 

            Cody Hodge, a 2007 Daredevil Youth Racer graduate, which moved up to the Street Stocks in 2008 will be awarded the top rookie award in the River Bend RV Street Stock division. The Orleans, Vermont racer picked up several wins and podium finishes in his rookie season. He defeated Andrew Fecteau and Kevin Whittum Jr. for the award.

 

            St. Johsnbury, Vermont’s, Dan Sidney captured the Rookie of the Year honors in the Optical Expression Outlaw Sportsman. Sidney captured a win late in the season, the only driver to do so other than Derek Ming and Doug Laleme. Sidney earned the award by taking what the track would give him each event. David Ofsuryk Jr. placed second.

 

            Not only did Leo Enos Landscaping Angels driver Johanna Christman win the championship, she also did it in her rookie season. Christman picked up a few wins on the way, plus several top finishes, to edge out Vanessa Brown for the division championship. The Cabot, Vermont native beat out Cynthia Litvin to capture the rookie title.

 

            Concord, Vermont’s, Toby Merchant edged out Ciara McCoy and Alex Rancourt for rookie honors in the sleek Twisted Tea Dwarf Car class. Merchant was a consistent top five finisher all season long, and captured a few qualifying checkers during the season.

 

            The Jiffy Mart Cyclone rookie honors went to Lyndonville, Vermont’s, Adam Bergeron. Adam competed for the title in 2008 and posted several top ten finishes in his rookie year in a class that has become one tough division. He edged out fellow rookie Kristopher Russell to garner the top spot.

 

            The staff and management of Riverside Speedway would like to congratulate all Rookie of the Year award winners, and their teams for such a great 2008 racing season. The 2008 Banquet of Champions is open to all race teams that competed during the season, as well as all race fans. Only 450 tickets will be sold, and no tickets will be available at the door.
