MASON NIPS MASON IN
RIVERSIDE LATE MODEL THRILLER
A showery morning turned into the best weather date of the season at the P.A.S.S. sanctioned Riverside Speedway, as crystal clear skies, a large crowd and a pit full of racecars made for another exciting night of racing sponsored by Vermont Broadcast Associates. Winners on the night included Corey Mason, Nathan Swallow, Cody Hodge, Johanna Christman, Ernie Laplant and Charlie Rockwell.
The North Country Ford Late Models returned this past Saturday night and what a show they put on for the fans as Corey Mason and brother Bryan Mason raced side by side to the checkered flag, with Corey grabbing the win by half a fender. The battle for third was just as intense as Pete Gilcris held off repeated challenges by Grant Folsom and Paul Schartner III. Heat checkers flew for Gilcris and Mike Kenison.
Nathan Swallow grabbed another checkered flag in the Budweiser Super Stocks, as he raced by Jason Kenison late in the race to nail down another victory. Kenison held off a challenge by Denny Degreenia to pick up the runner-up position. Luke Shannon and Matt Carbone raced home fourth and fifth. Kennison and Brian Gosselin won their respective qualifiers.
Rookie, Cody Hodge carried the checkers in the River Bend RV Street Stock main event, as he pulled away from second place finisher Michael Smith in the latter stages of the event. Tyler Therrien finished third ahead of Alex Theroux and point leader Shawn Swallow. Therrien and Smith won their preliminary rounds.
Ernie Laplant and Eric Hall pulled away from the field and battled heavy traffic to the finish, with Laplant scoring the victory in the Twisted Tea Dwarf Cars. Unofficially third through fifth went to Dana Huoppi, Alex Rancourt and Dave Gyger. The final finish is under review by track officials. Heat wins went to Laplant and Hall.
Once again the Leo Enos Landscaping Angels put on a tremendous show, and when all the dust settled, point leader, Johanna Christman picked up her third win of the season. Mary Eastman had a career best second place finish. Rounding out the top five were Vanessa Brown, Lindsy Rexford, and Tracy Nelson.
The Jiffy Mart Cyclones were out in force on Saturday night as twenty six cars went green for their special 100 lap main event. Chargin’ Charlie Rockwell returned to victory lane and picked up the $300 winners check, plus a $50 bonus from Rick’s Renovations. Chasing Rockwell to the stripe were Jamie Swallow Jr., Loren Vear, Anthony Hill and Shaun Stetson.
