RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY HEADS IN NEW DIRECTION FOR 2009 RACE SEASON
There will be some major changes coming to Riverside Speedway for the 2009 racing season. Most of the changes will be in the form of new personnel, and promotions from within the system.
General Manager, Dick Therrien stated, “It is time to make a move that will allow me more flexibility on race day than what I have had in the past. A couple key employees will not be returning in 2009, including my announcer, Nelson Lord. I have tried in the past to run everything by myself, and it is now time to designate much of the duties to the qualified team that I have assembled, thus allowing me to go back and do the job I really love, that being the track announcer. My new team will open many new doors for us, and allow for much more communication than in the past.”
The new team consists of the following: Mickey Miller has been promoted to Assistant General Manager and will be in charge of operations along with myself on race day. He will oversee the entire facility. Doug Shannon will be the new Chief Technical Inspector and will become the Director of Competition. Joining Shannon as Tech Officials for 2009 will be veteran official Hazen “Butch” Mitchell and newcomer, Tom Hickey. Jean Leblanc will take over the job of Race Director, while Chief Starter, Shane Carr will also be promoted to Assistant Race Director. Min Kennett will return 1n 2009 on a full time basis as Pit Steward and Handicapper. Bob Wright has been promoted to the Pit Coordinator / Pit Director position for 2009, while Valerie Carr will return as Head Scorer, assisted by Dawn Pelletier.
For the first time there will be a contest board intact. The mission of this board will be to rectify any situations that should occur during the season, and also hand out any penalties if deemed necessary. This team will also be responsible for any rule adjustments that might be necessary for the best interest of competition. Board members include Mickey Miller, Doug Shannon, Bob Wright, Jean Leblanc, Shane Carr, and Dick Therrien. Andy Mitchell will serve as an alternate and Valerie Carr will serve as Secretary.
This new plan is essential for the continued growth of Riverside Speedway. For more information, or to view the 2009 rulebooks, please visit the Track website at www.riversidespeedway.org.
