RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY DWARF CARS

UNDERGO SUBTLE CHANGES IN 2009 AND 2010

Riverside Speedway Dwarf Car racers came out in droves this past Sunday afternoon to set the path of the division for the 2009 racing season and beyond. Seventeen race teams were present at the meeting, with numerous competitors unable to make the meeting for various reasons. This is a far cry from four years ago when just six or seven cars were left. Through local growth, strict rules and some cooperation from the teams, they have worked together and more than doubled the figure that was originally grouped.

“It was nice to see four brand new teams all set to make a run for the 2009 title, stated General Manager, Dick Therrien. It is amazing how many cars there are out there just sitting in barns and garages. The renewed growth of the Dwarf Cars is exciting as they put on a pretty good show each week. We tightened up the rules package for 2009, and this is going to be done mostly by adding weight to cars as deemed necessary for the best interest of the division. Weight penalties will be passed out until the field is somewhat balanced, but it will not be so much as to allow those teams not working as hard to improve just to catch up by not working on their cars. These machines are highly technical just like our big cars, and we have some teams that have really done their homework, and it shows by the performance of their racers.”

The group also decided that they will run weekly in 2009. Each team will be able to throw out their worst two finishes of the season or they can miss two events without being penalized. This will give them the opportunity to have time off if they choose to do so.

There will be a significant change in the rules for the 2010 season, as the group voted to outlaw any engines over 1,000 c.c.’s. This will get everyone on the same page, but by making it valid in 2010, it will give teams a chance to gather up the necessary equipment for the change, over a longer period of time.

The 2009 rules will be posted on the track website in the near future as well as the 2010 tentative rules so that anyone interested in making the move in 2010 will have an idea of what to expect ahead of time.

Riverside Speedway is located on Brown Road, off Route 3 in Groveton, New Hampshire. All track info including rules are available on the website at www.riversidespeedway.org, or by calling the track at 603-636-2006.
