LALEME GRABS OUTLAW SPORTSMAN WIN AND CHAMPIONSHIP AT RIVERSIDE,
FOLSOM PICKS UP LMS VICTORY
A beautiful fall afternoon greeted the racers and race fans as the next to the last points race of the season was held for several divisions, and a championship was decided in the Outlaw Sportsman on Budweiser Day at the races at the P.A.S.S. sanctioned Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire. Winners on the day included Doug Laleme, Grant Folsom, Andrew Fecteau, Mary Eastman, Nick Miller, Brandon Lambert and Charlie Rockwell.
Doug Laleme rolled to his fifth victory of the season in the Optical Expressions
Outlaw Sportsman main event, and he claimed his first championship in the division as well. Laleme took over the top spot at the half way mark and stretched his lead to ten car lengths at the checkers. Steve Patnaude, Reggie Theroux, Dan Sidney and David Ofsuryk Jr. rounded out the top five. Laleme also won the lone qualifier.
Grant Folsom shook the monkey off his back that has plagued him the last two races, as he held off repeated challenges from Bryan Mason to secure his first win of the season in the North Country Ford Late Models. Dean Weber grabbed the third spot followed by point leader Mike Kenison and Corey Mason. Folsom and Stephen Hodgdon won their respective qualifiers. Heading into the finale next Saturday, Mike Kenison leads Bryan Mason by a mere four points.
Rookie driver, Andrew Fecteau won his first River Bend RV Street Stock main event, as he held off Kevin Whittum Jr. to gain his first main event victory. Alex Theroux raced home third, followed by Cody Hodge and Tyler Therrien. Heat victories went to Whittum and Theroux. Shawn Swallow leads Michael Smith by eight points heading into the finale.
Mary Eastman grabbed her second win of the season by edging out her sister Traci Nelson in the Leo Enos Landscaping Angels main event. Point leader Johanna Christman raced home third ahead of Vanessa Brown and Jen Terrill. Christman leads Brown by just eight points heading into next week’s championship event.
The Kids Only Daycare Daredevils ran their usual pair of features and when the dust settled, Nick Miller won the rookie event as he nipped Stephen Donahue at the stripe. Nick Gilcris, Aaron Poulin and Kasey Degreenia completed the top five. The Veteran’s feature saw Brandon Lambert securing the win ahead of Keith Lord, Cameron Bowen, Randy Whittum and Manville Powers III .
The final event of the day was the Jiffy Mart Cyclones 50 lapper. Point leader Charlie Rockwell secured the win and holds a slim two point lead over race runner-up, Loren Vear heading into next weeks championship event. Anthony Hill raced home third followed by Rick Utley Jr. and Jeff Ainsworth.
The final point battles will come to a head this coming Saturday afternoon at 2pm, as Twisted Tea presents championship day at the races. It will be extra distance events for all divisions, plus the torrid point battles will all come to an end, and champions will be decided. The pits open at 9:30am, practice rolls off at 11am, and the first green flag flies at 2pm. The day will feature Late Models, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Daredevils, Angels and Cyclones.
Don’t forget to make plans for the big season ending shows coming October 4th and 11th at Riverside Speedway. On the 4th, John Christman Construction presents the 2nd Annual Fall Free For All. This open comp show will feature Late Models paying up to $1,200 to win, Thunder Road Tigers paying $500 to win plus Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Daredevils and Cyclones. Then the biggie of them all, the $5,000 to win Frostbite 250 will take place Saturday, October 11th. This four and six cylinder enduro is the biggest event going in the area. Also on the card will be the P.A.S.S. Sportsman 75 lap championship event, plus the 4X4 Tug O’ War championships.
