TROY RANDALL CLAIMS HIS FIRST PRE-HANGOVER AT RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY
Not even Mother Nature could spoil the fun of the 3rd Annual Pre-Hangover 150 this past Saturday afternoon at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire. The event sponsored by Rick’s Renovations and Dan’s Contracting and Mobile Homeworks was once again deemed a huge success, and the 4th annual event is already plotted on the calendar for 2009.
A prediction of freezing rain and rain put the event in jeopardy, but the bad weather never materialized until late Saturday morning, mostly just in the form of rain. By that time, track officials were committed as heavy rain and temps in the 50’s scheduled for Sunday would have wiped out the track’s snow covered racing surface. “We spent countless hours preparing the track for this years’ event and I was not going to lose it, stated General Manager, Dick Therrien. This race was going to happen today whether we had empty grandstands or not. The rain stopped at around 1pm, and the crowd started to arrive. The four hundred people in the stands got a great show full of thrills and spills, and for those who passed it up due to the weather, all I can say is wait til next year!”
Troy Randall from Wheelock, Vermont grabbed the early lead and overcame countless tense moments, especially during the latter stages of the event where he had to dodge several moving bullets. Randall crossed the finish line with a two lap advantage over Lyndonville, Vermont’s, Paul Schartner III. Gerard Cote from Oxford, Maine placed third. Fourth through tenth were, Matt Leblanc, Ryan Delabruere, Kevin Harran, Jerrad Ainsworth, Joseph Pralicz, Bronson Roy and Ryan Avery. Runner-up, Paul Schartner III grabbed the top prize of $100 and the nice trophy for the “Best Themed” vehicle as his car donned a Christmas tree with all the trimmings and ornaments on the roof. Ironically, the tree stayed on the entire event.
Forty-one racing vehicles including cars, trucks and an El Camino participated in the event. Drivers from throughout New England, New York, Ohio and North Carolina competed for the $500 first place prize.
That concludes the racing activities at Riverside Speedway for the 2008 racing season.
